For Lucas’ 2nd birthday we decided to have it pretty early in the day 11am, for two reasons. One, because toddlers are ussually happier in the morning. Two, so that we would have plenty of time to clean up and hang out to enjoy the 3 day weekend afterwards!
Since we are having it early, I decided I needed to provide a light meal for our attendees.
To serve my food I ordered these amazing items from Garnish. Anyone else in love with Garnish like I am? Last year was the first time I used some of thier items. I had ordered the paper straws and they were great. I couldn’t wait to get online and order for Lucas’ party this year. The little baskets will be for the kids to make thier “picnic” lunch. The paper boats are for the grown ups. The cups are for the pasta salad. Adorable. I love love affordable Garnish is too. For instance, the little baskets were 60 cents a piece. Awesome. And way cuter than boring paper plates! You can buy exactly as many pieces as you want and not worry about having a million left over!
Here is what I have on the menu:
Finger Sandwiches: Vegan Cucumber and Dill Sandwiches (we have more than a few vegan attendees and I want to make sure they have a yummy option, Peanut Butter and Honey (Lucas’ favorite sandwich these days and Pooh loves honey too after all), Hummus and Veggie (another vegan option), Turkey and Cheese with Roasted Red Bell Pepper, and Chicken Salad.
Side Dish: Pasta Salad (from my friend Kara’s blog here, The Wicked Vegetarian. She is amazing!)
Cake: In lou of a cake I have opted for cupcakes. Most of our little guests will be toddlers and cupcakes can easily be held with two hands and eaten. Plus you don’t have to cut them! I contemplated making a really cool beehive cake, but decided to go easy on myself. I found this really easy recipe for lemonade cupcakes which I will be using.
Cookies: I will be making Martha Stewart’s French Macaron recipe and a few other cookies to have on the tables outside.
Cake Pops: A new bakery just opened in town called Dilly Dales Delights and they specialize in Cake Pops. I ordered two dozen, enough for each persone to have one. The cost 50 smackerooos… Eeeek. I hope they are really cute! I am sure they will be. Because of the cost, I decided to use them as centerpieces on the tables.
Today is Ezra’s last day of school, so I am off to volunteer at his annual Field Day. I hope you all have a great day too!
