This weekend I gave Martha Stewart’s French Macaron recipe a try.  Let me tell you, there are A LOT of steps but they turned out very pretty.

I followed the recipe to the T except for the baking time, for some reason it took an extra 8 minutes for them to bake, maybe its an altitude thing?  Another tip I have after making these is that when you are piping the batter onto your cookie sheet try to leave your tip as close as possible to the sheet.  Instead of piping a swirl think of it more like pushing the batter into a circle (if that makes sense).  As you can see in my picture, there are a couple that look swirly on top and that was from making a swirl and not having my tip close enough to the cookie sheet.

For the frosting in the middle I whipped up a batch of her Buttercream and tinted it a mint green, to go with the soft earth tones of the party I am planning.

My trial run was a success, but I am undecided as to whether I want to try to make them again as it took over 2 hours for one batch.  I think the cookies are so much prettier than plain old chocolate chip, that is for sure.  So more than likely these will be on  our dessert bar.

If you have a few extra hours in your day today, give them a try.  It was fun!  You can find the recipe here.
