Sometimes you just get a mad craving for a burger, right.  What do you do when you don’t eat meat?  Anyone who has eaten a boca burger and been disappointed will be pleased when they take a bite of these!  They put garden burger and boca to shame.  Delish!  The kids love them.   Here is Ezra illustrating how yummy he thinks they are.

Ingredients:

1 can (16 oz) black beans, drained well

1/2 green bell pepper, cubed

1/2 onion chopped

3 gloves of garlic

1 egg

1 tbsp chili powder

1 tbsp cumin

1 teaspoon hot sauce

1/2 cup bread crumbs or panko

Heat oven to 375 degrees and lightly grease baking sheet

In a medium bowl mash black beans until thick and pasty.  Finely chop bell pepper, onion and garlic.  You can use a food processor, but often this will make it too liquidy.  I recommend a hand chopper if you have one.  Stir into the beans.

In smaller bowl mix egg, chili powder, cumin and chili sauce. 

Stir into the bean mixture.  Mix in bread crumbs until the mixture is sticky and holds together.  Divide into four to five patties.  Place on baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes on each side. 

We serve on whole wheat buns with avocado slices on top along side some sweet potato fries.  Fast food with a healthy twist!
